Lower Herring Lake is located only about 6 miles south of Frankfort, Michigan. Nearby, farther north and/or East are Sleeping Bear Dunes, Beulah, Interlochen Center for the Arts and Traverse City for excursions, shopping, music, eating and winery tours.
Frankfort has: The Bookstore, a hardware store, bait shops, and many stores with seasonal items. There are fishing charter rentals, the wonderfully restored Garden Theater, Storm Cloud Brewery, The Fusion, Dinghy’s, L’Chayim Delicatessen, Crescent Bakery, Petals and Perks coffee shop and other eateries and a grocery store.
Farther north, along M22, past Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, you go on to Empire, Leland, Sutton’s Bay and Northport and over to Traverse City.
